Choose from different formats for your guitar instruction: weekly 30-minute lessons, which are best for younger students, bi-weekly 1-hour lessons that are often better suited for adults, or weekly 1-hour lessons for the more serious. *You can also opt for online/remote guitar lessons to fit your busy schedule.
We'll start with the basics of guitar instruction, covering terminology, mechanics, instrument-specific care and upkeep, tuning, etc. From there, we'll move on to music theory, fret-board theory, ear training (playing and learning by ear), sight-reading, soloing, improvisation, practicing with a metronome, singing while playing, song-writing, and more. All ages and skill levels are welcome, and we can explore any genre you like—rock, punk, pop, folk, indie, bluegrass, jazz, funk, classical... you name it, Joel teaches it. Additionally, we offer online guitar lessons that include guidance on setting up a home recording studio and getting started with home recording and MIDI, using software like Logic Pro or GarageBand, etc.
I strive to provide fun and informative music instruction for all ages and skill levels, while focusing on what you actually want to learn. Why did you decide to learn an instrument in the first place? We'll explore that question together, along with essential music theory, and come up with a plan that really fits your goals and needs as a developing musician.
Starting in March of 2020, in the wake of the pandemic, we began offering online lessons, and this format has become very common and useful to this day. This means location is no longer a factor for anyone interested in receiving guitar, etc. instruction from me! They're going great and serve as a fantastic alternative to in-person lessons. All you need is a device (computer, tablet, phone) with a good WIFI signal, and I'll take care of the rest.
